Kirby Fine Timber has been in the business of sawmilling for approximately 25 years, trading as D & I Kirby & Associates for the majority of this time. The evolution of the name to Kirby Fine Timber signifies the growth of the company while incorporating the next generation of Kirby’s into the business.
Tonewoods are the core focus of Kirby Fine Timber. The company has been supplying tonewoods to Maton Guitars since the late 1990’s and Cole Clark Guitars since their inception a few years later, in addition to many other private Luthiers.
Kirby Fine Timber also supply wholesale timber to cabinet makers, joinery manufacturers, Artisans and furniture makers.
Kirby Fine Timber (KFT) manage many plantations of rainforest timbers for cabinet and tonewoods. The tonewood plantations they manage, planted in the 1920’s have been pruned and thinned in accordance with good forestry practice. The proper management has ensured the company a reliable supply of clean, knot free tonewoods for the future.
The company is proud to boast that there is as much quality timber in cubic metres at the plot now as there was when they first entered in the site in the early 1990’s. Ongoing re-planting and maintenance (pruning, thinning etc.) has offset the many hundreds of cubic metres of log that have been harvested during this period.
Sustainable logging on private land in far North Queensland is also completed by KFT on an approximate 40 year cycle.
KIRBY FINE TIMBER IS COMMITTED TO SUSTAINABLE HARVESTING.
